Why Real People are Essential for Custom Art
For one- art is a human expression, as we have been endowed with creativity by the source of all of it, the Creator. So, there you go. Question answered. But here recently we’ve been reminded of the total chaos that we bring order out of when we create custom work for our clients. No guide. No exact prior experience. In this case, no client opinions either (they wanted to be surprised).
Real time problem solving
On this piece, we performed some metalworking magic. While rounding the body of this dragon, part of the tail got rounded as well. That didn’t jive with our design- so we simply put some material back on the corner and made it square again.
There will be errors. We may miss some little detail in a 2,000-degree, 5-pound piece of steel, and so we need to be prepared to think creatively to leverage our skills into a success, no matter what hiccups come our way.
This is the sort of thing that makes our job incredibly difficult, yet so rewarding. The trial, error, and success. Few people will ever know exactly what happens to create something completely custom out of unrelenting steel. The person who shapes it to their will- that’s the kind of grit, ingenuity, and flexibility that makes bespoke metalwork so valuable.
